security technology trends you need to know about
If you are responsible for security management in your organization, there are several major security technology trends you should pay attention to. If you are about to install security systems on a new site, there is little point in considering legacy security technologies such as analog CCTV cameras and stand-alone systems, as these technologies yield an increasingly lower return on investment each year.
Furthermore, even if your organization doesn’t currently have any plans to upgrade your existing security systems, you still need to be monitoring several important technology trends, as it is likely that your organization will adopt some or all of them as global security standards in the near future.
Facial Recognition Surveillance Systems
When video analytics come to mind, we often think of it in the traditional sense: a camera detects an object or a person and alerts you if something is out of place. However, as the security market becomes even more competitive, companies are developing advanced algorithms to stay current and increase profitability.
Specific faces can be registered in advance to send an alarm when they are detected. The faces of repeat shoplifters and wanted criminals, etc. can be registered in the facial recognition security/surveillance system from data recorded in the past.
Information can also be shared between facial recognition systems by importing generic photo data in the JPEG format, etc. Alarms can notify the operator by displaying pop-ups on the screen, emitting warning sounds, or flashing the camera on the map, etc.
-Face images can be used to perform searches.
For example, face images of suspicious people detected on the sales floor can be searched to track information on a timeline, including what time they entered the store and which sales floor they passed. Whether suspicious people have shoplifted, etc. after entering the store can also be immediately searched for and checked by the facial recognition security/surveillance system.
Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR )
Automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) is an image processing technology which uses number (license) plate to identify the vehicle. The objective is to design an efficient automatic authorized vehicle identification system by using the vehicle number plate. The system is implemented on the entrance for security control of a highly restricted area like military zones or area around top government offices e.g. Parliament, Supreme Court etc.
The developed system first detects the vehicle and then captures the vehicle image. Vehicle number plate region is extracted using the image segmentation in an image. Optical character recognition technique is used for the character recognition. The resulting data is then used to compare with the records on a database so as to come up with the specific information like the vehicle owner, place of registration, address, etc.
The system is implemented and simulated in Matlab, and it performance is tested on real image. It is observed from the experiment that the developed system successfully detects and recognize the vehicle number plate on real images.
Reasons to Consider Security Systems Integration
In today’s environment, putting up surveillance cameras or contracting a security guard service provider is simply not enough from a security liability perspective.
What is Systems Integration?
An integrated security system takes multi-layered security systems and integrates them into one solution. For example, a campus may have the following security systems:
- Video Surveillance
- Access Control
- Intrusion Alarm
Here is how an integrated security system can benefit your organization.
Efficiency- An integrated security system will allow organizations to flourish more effectively and efficiently.
Centralization- Systems integration will allow an organizations security operations to become centralized.
Real Time Monitoring- Security teams and administrators are able to see what is going on within their facilities and areas of work instantly.
Boost Productivity- An integrated security system can increase productivity in the workspace.
Savings- In the long run, systems integration will protect your Organization or institution and save you money.
Web-based security management systems
Web-based security management is a new form of electronic access control. Whereas most current electronic systems use local networks and dedicated servers, web-based systems manage security entirely over an internet connection.
Unlike server based systems that require technically challenging and expensive server installations, web-based systems only require a single network appliance that is easy to install and can be configured within minutes rather than hours. This makes web-based systems especially suitable for small, remote sites or temporary offices.
All system data can be accessed through an internet browser on practically any device, including laptops, tablets and even phones. This allows end users to manage access to sites from any location.
Web-based access management solutions also have significant potential for integration with other internet based security systems such as IP Camera-based surveillance systems. This means that web-based systems are likely to be among the more future proof systems available on the market.
Control Room Video Walls Display Systems
Furwel Technologies video wall services offers a complete video display wall solution. We will create a diagram and installation plan to fit your timeline and budgetary requirements. Our professional support and installation team will have your solution delivered and installed quickly and worry free.
Building an integrated display wall allows the images from a single source to be ‘wrapped’ across multiple screens.
- LCD Televisions – normally used due to budget restrictions, offer HD resolution with large bezels, warranties are often restricted to three months for commercial use as they are not designed to be running 24 x 7.
- Professional LCD display screens – Offer long life but also with larger bezels making it not the best solution for video wall use.
- Narrow bezel LCD screens – designed for tiled video wall applications. As a tiled LCD solution the narrow bezel LCD is ideal for traffic and surveillance centres, and utilities & process control rooms.
Video analytics and people counting technology
Video analytics refers to software applications that are able to conduct smart analysis of surveillance footage in a wide variety of ways. This solves a major deficiency of most surveillance systems, which is that they are unable to promptly notify end users of a security incident on their own.
Video analytics software can identify when a person enters an unauthorized area on a monitored site, including perimeter breaches, high risk zones in factories or around a valuable asset in a high level security area. This allows security systems to send an alert to security staff as soon as an incident occurs and enables a more effective response.
People counting is another highly important application for video analytics technology and is especially important for companies in the retail sector. People counting allows organizations to analyze customer volume and behavior using surveillance cameras. This makes it easier to identify areas of the store that attract high customer interest and allows companies to adjust business practices to accommodate customer behaviors and achieve greater business performance.
